Frequently Asked Questions

This sounds like something I might be interested in, how do I find out more?

You can call me at 510 984 4068 or contact me at familyfirstadvising [at] gmail [dot] com to ask additional questions and set up a free phone conversation.  During that conversation, we'll discuss your situation and if you then decide you would like my help, we'll plot a path forward.

Do I need to live in the Bay Area to get help from you?

No.  Typically,  the advising is done by phone.  If you live in the Bay Area and face to face works better, we can make arrangements.

How often does the advising take place?

It really depends on the situation: it can be as frequent as several times a week at the beginning to as little as once a month later on.  There is often a more intense period of advising early on as we work to establish your goals for yourself and your family, the proper resources to support them, and start taking the steps that will get you and your family to a better place.  Typically, we'd arrange to talk on the phone once a week.

What are your rates?

My basic rate is $120/hour.  Initially, advising sessions tend to be an hour long, but depending on the situation, 1/2 hour sessions can work well.  I'm interested in helping you and your kids as efficiently as possible.

Money is really tight right now-- what can I do?

Please don't let a concern about cost discourage you from reaching out.  My goal is to help you and your family.  The initial conversation is free and hopefully will be helpful even by itself.  I reserve a limited number of spots at reduced rates for those who need assistance. If you are financially strapped, we'll work together to try to find something that works.

I'm still unclear what to expect, is this like therapy?

No.  The experience is more like having a personal coach with expertise in what you are going through and in how to help your children while you are navigating things.  We'll work together to figure out a set of goals and then I'll help you achieve those goals.  Between sessions, you'll have concrete tasks to work on.
